Arrival/Departure dates flexible, subject to availability.

One of the most impressive features of Bella Due, apart from its huge sitting/dining room, is its balcony off both bedrooms, overlooking pretty mediaeval streets.

1 double bedroom + 1 single bedroom/1 bath room with full sized tub + hand held shower/WC. Sleeps 3. Can sleep up to 2 extra persons in large sitting/dining room at 50 euros/per person/per week.

With free WiFi internet access, Bella Due, a stylish apartment, is in the historic, pedestrian centre of Spoleto called "il Borgo", buzzing with shops, bars and restaurants as well as ancient monuments, churches and museums, at every twist and turn of Spoleto's arched and cobbled streets.  Housed within the famous 14C Rocca Dei Perugini, the stronghold for the Perugini, (where the battle between the Spoletini and the Perugini raged for 2 years until the Spoletini regained their city), located in Porta Fuga, one of the oldest mediaeval lanes in Spoleto, you are treated to all the advantages of contemporary living, while, at the same time, the atmosphere is laced with antiquity. You could not want to be in a better location than this !!

A car is NOT necessary as you are just 10 minutes walk from the train station and the bus terminus or a very short bus-ride. From the train station, you can get to practically anywhere in Italy. And, from the bus station, there are a myriad of really interesting journeys you can take, from little local rides around the hills, visiting a diversity of hill-top villages, to places as far afield as Castelluccio and Norcia - all spectacular rides !

Interior details…..

Bella Due is a fabulous apartment with an extremely large sitting/dining room.

It has 2 bedrooms and a fully fitted galley kitchen that is in the middle of the apartment, between the sitting room and the bedrooms. The bathroom is on the opposite side of the kitchen.

The comfortable living space has sofas, a traditional table and chairs (seats 8) and a big window looking towards the hills and across roof-tops.  Both bedrooms open onto a balcony, which has pretty views overlooking the ancient, cobbled and arched lane of Porta Fuga and of Corso Garibaldi, the main drag to the left.

Throughout the apartment are hand-painted, simple, ornamental ceilings, in keeping with the ancient traditions of these palazzos.

Immediate vicinity….

Entering the Rocca Dei Perugini through its huge Roman archway, you reach Bella Due on the 4th floor by lift or stairs. All around you, placed strategically hither and thither, are plants and flowers. The interior of the this beautiful palazzo is very pretty with lots of sunlight.

The Rocca Dei Perugini is the midst of shops, bars and the largest selection of fantastic restaurants, all offering a diversity of dishes from local black truffles to pastas and paper thin, bubbly, crispy crust, piping hot pizzas.

Spoleto is not a touristy place and, therefore, prices are good, competitive local prices.

The local wines eg Trebbiano, Grecchetto, Montefalco, Orvieto... are to die for. You will hardly notice the price of it on your bill.

You can choose from amazing shoe, bag and clothes shops, any shape or size, designer label or otherwise.

And, there are churches and monuments on street corners, under arches, through tunnelled alleyways, peppered hither and thither, as you meander along the picturesque cobbled lanes, every angle, a work of art. Fatal to take your camera out. You will obsessively do nothing but take photos !

The local bars are filled with friendly locals and the owners will warmly welcome you.

The passeggiata occurs twice a day but the main one is between 5 pm to 7.30 pm. This is the time of day when everyone meets and is joyful, especially over aperitivi.

Walk for 20 minutes to the top of Spoleto, pass the beautiful Rocca, a mediaeval castle open to the public, cross the famous 'Ponte', a huge aqueduct,  and you are in the Sacred Mountains.

Private pool included in rate, 7 miles away…....plus speciality lunches, using local produce

Our large private pool (120 sq mts) is available for your use at any time between May to Sept, free of charge, at our Villa Marianna.

Villa Marianna is 7 miles away, along a spectacularly beautiful and quiet road, occasionally used for the famous, once a year, Giro D’Italia cycling race.

At Villa Marianna, we offer speciality lunches...truffle, pasta and pizza dishes, made from our fresh, home-grown produce, subject to demand.

And, every Wed, we are offering a tiny farmer's market at Villa Marianna, where our home-grown produce will be on sale...or, you can pick your own from the fields !

If you do not have a car, then, we can arrange a taxi or, if Laurie, my husband, happens to be going up there, you may be able to hitch a lift !

BUS, TRAIN OR CAR.....

From Spoleto train station, a 10 mins walk, it is possible to get to practically anywhere in Italy eg 1 hr 20 mins to Rome, 4/5 hours to Venice and Naples, 30 mins to Perugia.... An easy walk along a flat boulevard road, also stuffed with shops and bars !

From the nearest bus stop, a 5 mins walk, you can catch a bus to Norcia, which will take you on a sensationally beautiful drive along the Valnerina, for about 1 hr 45 mins, passing through mountain scenery, climbing higher and higher.

Or, by car, you can continue further to the heart-stoppingly, amazing Gran Piano and see the tiny hick town of Castellucio peeking through swirling mists. On a great plane, surrounded by mountains, the world spilling beneath you, your heart will miss a beat. In Castellucio, you can dine on the finest lentils and white truffles.

Nearer to home, by car, it is easy to visit Todi, Gubbio, Orvieto, Perugia, Spello and Assisi, all within a 45 mins heavenly drive.

Brief description of Spoleto, to wet your appetite !

Spoleto is akin to a giant, fairy-tale castle. Sprinkled with bars, restaurants and shops, peppered with piazzas, Spoleto sits magestically amidst a maze of tunnelled, cobbled lanes and alley-ways, all leading skywards to the famous Rocca, the aquaduct and, some of the best views in the world. A surreal setting, a stage-set in the making, fringed by mountains, olive groves, vineyards, mediaeval monasteries, towns, cities and tiny hill-top villages - all beckoning a visit, Spoleto is truly a temptress. Succumb to her beauty and you must use all your will-power to leave. Quite simply, Spoleto is the most captivating city in Italy, never mind Umbria, Venice and Florence, being on a par.

Venice has the water. Florence has the Uffici.  Spoleto has the mountains. All three have a history to be reckoned with. All three bedazzle us with their rich cultures, their European, aristocratic connections and their sheer beauty. But, Spoleto has the upper hand for the world traveller. It resists tourism with its associated inflated rates and tacky goods on sale ! You are invited to visit Spoleto, but, not as a tourist. You will be welcomed like a long lost member of the family ! Treated like a king. And, you will pay the same rates as all the locals, especially when you pay attention to all our recommended restaurants, bars and gelaterias.

Subsequently, Spoleto is in demand with those in search of "the authentic Italian" experience, love beauty and who wish to base themselves in the centre of Italy because, from Spoleto, you can get to practically anywhere else in Italy easily and cheaply within minutes to a few hours.

Until now, it had always been too expensive to stay in Spoleto. Holiday-makers were forced to stay outside of Spoleto and drive in. We have changed all that. We have "unlocked" Spoleto, with our range of centrally located apartments, at rates that are competitive with our "out of town" apartments, making Spoleto affordable for you, at last !

If you intend being without a car, then, unless my husband or the car is incapacitated (both highly unlikely), then, you will be picked up from the station on your day of arrival and taken back on the day of your departure.

PARKING....

If you are with a car, then, you can park nearby. Or, you can hire a single car secure garage space, next to the elevator. The weekly rate is 50 euros, or 8 euros/day, the rate we pay the owner of the tiny car-park.

    “Heaven”
    2011
We arrived on the 13th July. where do I start? the welcome from Laurie and Norma, the apartment with balcony and terrace, the views, the town? exactly what we were looking for , so glad we had booked the full week and regretted having to leave at the end of it. The trips to the mountain villa with swimming pool and lunch cooked by Chef Leonardo were the icing on the cake. the apartment is well appointed in the town and has everything needed for a relaxing stay in this beautiful town. dine in or out... it's your choice. good advice left in the apartment for walks, trips, shops, resturants etc. Laurie was very helpful throughout our stay- he and Norma are a delightful couple who made a big difference to the week we stayed there. Would go back in an instant. Thanks again to you both. D & E Jones
PS have just bookedBella Terazza for this year.

Back to Spoleto for 9 days. A wonderful town and Bella Due a wonderful apartment - very comfortable, lovely little balcony, and a great location from which to explore Spoleto, go for exellent walks into the hills, close to the station which is only 1.5 hours away from Rome. Laurie and Norma - thanks for all your help. Lovely dinner cooked by the chef at his house; a wonderful evenig all round. Great to go to our favourite restaurant, cake shop, the Ineteca, and just wander through Spoleto. We hope to return again for much longer!.

We were last in Spoleto - in fact at Norma and Laurie's property in San Manmiliano - in 2005 and we wondered if 'going back' would be as good as we remembered our first visit. This time we decided not to take a car but to rent something central and Bella Due was perfect. Our daughter joined us for 6 days and she too had the most relaxed break. The apartment is perfect for 2 or 3 people. We ate out at the many restaurants suggested by Norma and Laurie but also enjoyed buying at the local markets and supermarkets and cooking at home. Yes, the kitchen is small but it's all very much for us part of the charm of self-catering in Umbria. We enjoyed the balcony, front and rear and the use in our second week of the terrace next door as the property was unoccupied (and Laurie offered the use of it).

Laurie is a splendid chap and just as we remembered him - so friendly, welcoming and, quite simply, a great host. Norma and Laurie work extremely hard to provide a first class service to all their guests but have the ability to make all of us feel like the only guests they have! What a great time we have had. As I type, this is our last evening, and we are so sad to be leaving tomorrow.

Spoleto for us will always mean memories of the Duomo, the Rocca and the excellent hospitality and properties of Norma and Laurie. I hope we get the opportunity to return.
