Remember that Laurie may not be able to meet you with the keys before 2.00 pm (Monday – Saturday), since cleaning may still be taking place, or, 4.00 pm (Sunday), since we are out for lunch between 12.30 pm – 4.00 pm (the great Italian tradition!).

However, should you be in the area earlier, it is worth giving Laurie a ring just in case the cleaning has finished or we happen not to be at lunch, and, then, you can arrive earlier.

On the day of your departure (sorry to talk about your leaving before you’ve even arrived!), you should leave by 10.00 am so that the cleaning can commence – but, should you wish for a lift to the station on a Sunday, it should be at 10.00 am precisely – other days, we can arrange to take you to the station earlier.

LAURIE’S NUMBER IS: (0039) 349 739 3501

BY CAR FROM ROME:

From either of the Rome airports, make your way to the A1, following the signs to Firenze (Florence.

Drive carefully, making sure that you observe every sign because following the A1 signs to Firenze will ensure you are heading straight for us. Come off the Rome circular road following signs to Firenze. It can be tricky around the ring road because of road works etc so I stress that you should watch out for the signs to Firenze very carefully.

You will need to have some Euros available because part of the journey is on a toll road.

You leave the A1 at ORTE.

From the toll at Orte, follow signs to Spoleto (this part of the journey lasts about 45 minutes).

Try to phone Laurie immediately after coming through the toll. To phone Laurie at this point gives him a very good idea as to when exactly you are arriving : (0039) 349 739 3501 And, at this point you can make more precise arrangements as to what time to meet so that neither of you is left hanging around.

Do not take the first turn left to Spoleto.

Continue under the tunnel and take the first turning to Spoleto soon after you come out of the tunnel.

On the slip road (exit road), you will find a huge supermarket called, Conad. Park in front of the main entrance and telephone Laurie to let him know you have arrived.

If you have no mobile, you will need to go to Spoleto train station to find a public telephone.

When Laurie meets up with you, either at Conad or at Spoleto train station, he will take you directly to your apartment, which is just another 5 minutes drive or so and, where relevant, he will show you where the free parking is.

In the event of not being able to get through to Laurie on his mobile, ring me on (0039) 349 355 4556; but, only do this if you have really tried and failed to get through to Laurie as I will probably not know his whereabouts either and will not be able to meet you as I haven’t got a car. However, you can leave a message with me and I will try to communicate with him also, on your behalf. Clearly, though, it is best that you are able to contact Laurie directly. And, should he have disappeared off the face of the earth (god forbid!), then, we will have to think together about this new situation ! To date, this has not happened…..and, I trust it never will!

Laurie’s mobile number is : (0039) 349 739 3501 If he doesn’t answer straightaway, keep trying as he may have left his mobile somewhere for a moment or he may be travelling through mountains and temporarily lost the signal.

BY CAR FROM PERUGIA:

Follow the signs to Foligno.

When you come off the dual carriage way, take the 1st turning, sign-posted, Spoleto.

On the slip road (exit road), you will find a huge supermarket called, Conad. Park in front of the main entrance and telephone Laurie to let him know you have arrived.

If you have no mobile, you will need to go to Spoleto train station to find a public telephone.

ARE YOU STAYING IN CENTRAL SPOLETO AND DOING WITHOUT A CAR ?

If you advise us as to what time your train will arrive at Spoleto station, then, Laurie will come and collect you, providing it is not before 2.00 pm (Mon-Sat) since cleaning may be going on until that time and your apartment may not be ready, or, 4.00 pm (Sunday) since we are out for lunch between 12.30 pm – 4.00 pm (the great Italian tradition!).

You can advise me by e-mail in advance as to the arrival time of your train or you can phone Laurie on the day. However, we do appreciate it if, having e-mailed me with the arrival time, you phone Laurie on the day as well, if you can.

If for some reason, you think you may be delayed, then, it is urgent to phone Laurie or me to inform us of your delay as he has many guests arriving and departing whom he must attend to.

Should Laurie be delayed and not be at the station when you arrive (he will find you if he is there and he drives a dark red Peugeot Estate car), then, please just stay put and wait – there is a bar. And, if you are delayed but can’t communicate this to Laurie for any reason, then, please do the same ie just stay at the station and wait since he will keep returning to the station to check for your arrival, should you fail to be on the train he is expecting you to be on.

So, the main rule of thumb to remember if all else fails is to stay put at Spoleto station. However, please rest assured that it is usually the case that everything goes smoothly !

Laurie’s number is : (0039) 349 739 3501

My number in an emergency is (0039) 349 355 4556. However, only use this number if all else has failed since I won’t be able to pick you up and won’t know of Laurie’s whereabouts. However, I will be able to reassure that all is well and that he is just delayed. And, I should be able to get a message to him, if you are delayed.

ARE YOU TRAVELLING TO SPOLETO BY TRAIN AND HIRING A CAR  LOCALLY?

If you book your car through the local Avis car-hire office and follow the instructions I outlined in earlier information I gave you, then, either Avis will send a car to take you to their office or, they will deliver a car to you at Spoleto station at the time you have arranged with them. This free taxi service does not apply if you have booked through the central Avis office.

So, please phone Laurie on (0039) 349 739 3501 about an hour or so before you think you will be arriving either at the Avis office to pick up your car or at Spoleto station – the Avis office is just a few minutes from the station. Laurie will meet you at an arranged time either at the Avis office or at Spoleto station – wherever it is you are picking up the car. He will then escort you to your apartment.

Alternatively, email me with the precise arrival time of your train and the arrangements you have made re your car-hire and, then, Laurie will meet you when and where you advise him to do so. Then, you need phone Laurie only if you think you may be delayed – though we do appreciate a phone-call in any case, if you can.

Should Laurie be delayed and not be at the station or the car-hire office when you arrive – whichever place you have told him to be – (he will find you if he is there and he drives a dark red Peugeot Estate car), then, please just stay put. And, if you are delayed but can’t communicate this to Laurie for any reason, then, please do the same ie just stay at the station or the car-hire office and wait since he will keep returning to check for your arrival, should you fail to be where he is expecting you to be. And, if you can, phone him to ensure that there has been no misunderstanding.

So, the main rule of thumb to remember if all else fails is to stay put wherever you have advised him to meet you. However, please rest assured that it is usually the case that everything goes smoothly!

My number in an emergency is (0039) 349 355 4556. However, only use this number if all else has failed since I won’t be able to pick you up and won’t know of Laurie’s whereabouts. So, we look forward to welcoming you to Spoleto!

We wish you a safe and enjoyable journey.

Cheers, Norma
